HBO have finally announced the return date of their awarding-winning fantasy show, Game of Thrones.

The highly anticipated sixth season will be arriving on US screens on Sunday 24th April. UK viewers can watch the premiere on Sky Atlantic a day later, on Monday 25th April. A simulcast will also be available for the especially eager.

In the upcoming season, fans will final learn the fate of Jon Snow, which has been teased in promotional material since the season five finale. Fans will also learn more about the mysterious destination of Daenerys Targaryen after her dramatic dragon-ride at the end of season five.

Season six also welcomes several new cast members, including Richard E.Grant, Ian McShane, Essie Davis, Pilou Asbaek and Freddie Stroma.

The announcement of the premiere date comes hot on the heels of news that Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin will not have the latest ASOIAF book, Winds of Winter, ready for publication this year. This means for the first time, readers of the books will not be ahead of viewers.

Game of Thrones will be broadcast in the UK on Sky Atlantic. Watch the teaser trailer for season six below.
