20th Century Fox have revealed the first, ominous trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence.
Set 20 years after the events in Roland Emmerich’s original 1996 blockbuster, the film sees the Earth invaded once again by a colossal alien force, that as Jeff Goldblum’s character quips “is definitely bigger than the last one.”
The official synopsis for the film reads:
“We always knew they were coming back. After Independence Day redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defence program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.”
Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman reprise their original roles in the highly anticipated sequel, alongside newcomers Liam Hemsworth, Maika Monroe and Jessie Usher – who plays the step-son of Will Smith’s absent character. The end of the trailer revealed a new website, which you can visit “to reflect on all we’ve lost and how far we’ve come.”
Also starring William Fitchner, Judd Hirsch, Vivica A. Fox, Brent Spiner, Joey King, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Sela Ward, Independence Day: Resurgence is set to hit UK cinemas on 24th June 2016.
