Idris Elba to DJ at Switch Southampton

Hollywood actor Idris Elba is set to return to his DJ roots with a set at Southampton’s Switch in January.

The actor, who is a rising star of both the big and small screens, will be playing a two hour set of house and party music at the city nightspot in Above Bar Street.

Despite being extremely busy with his various acting projects, Elba has found time to lend to his first love of music, having produced several albums in the past few years, including a Nelson Mandela-inspired LP (brought about by his appearance in the 2013 film, Long Walk To Freedom) and more recently, a Luther-based album entitled Murdah Loves John.

Speaking of the booking, organiser Ryan Keary told the Daily Echo: “Idris actually grew up as a DJ, and is a super talented one, playing at many of the best festivals and venues across the world, so its a big coup for Switch to be added to that list. This has the potential to be one of our best ever nights, the response for him has been like no other!”

Elba will play his set on Saturday 23rd January 2016, with support from Gary Bennetton, Metrospekt and Jamie Ings. Tickets for the event can be found here, and range from £6-£15. Join the Facebook event, here.
