Overnight figures have revealed that The X Factor has hit a new series low, with only 5.4 million people tuning in to the ‘This Is Me’ themed week.

It was also announced that 9.35 million watched Strictly Come Dancing, effectively meaning that the dancing show thrashed the first live show of the 12th season of Simon Cowell’s creation.

Although last series’ X Factor struggled against Saturday night rival Strictly Come Dancing, the series’ still averaged around 8.65 million viewers. With this year’s first live show pulling in just over half of that, the talent show is evidently losing its appeal with the majority of UK audiences.

Elsewhere in Saturday’s ratings, Doctor Who pulled in 3.87 million, Casualty attracted 3.65 million and The Jonathan Ross Show entertained a mere 2.12 million.
