It has been announced that British comedian and actor Ricky Gervais will return as host of the Golden Globes next year.

Gervais hosted the ceremony back in 2010, 2011 and 2012 before he was replaced by comedy-duo and best-friend-force, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, who have presented for the past three years.

Discussing Gervais’ return, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association President, Lorenzo Soria said: “Ricky Gervais left us with a lasting impression and we are thrilled to have him back in our show as we honour the best in film and television. His off-the-cuff wit and quirky charm will surely have the room and audiences around the world at the edge of their seats.”

Despite Fey and Poehler’s strong reviews, Gervais continues to be a popular – and controversial – choice.

The ceremony will take place on 10th January 2016. Watch the comedian’s opening monologue from the 2012 awards below.
