Gillian Anderson is set to star alongside Asa Butterfield, Jemaine Clement and Stanley Tucci in Sam Fell’s upcoming film, Croak.

Originally titled Teen Reaper, the Paranorman director will bring Lucy Moore’s long-gestating script to life. Croak tells the story of a young grim reaper (portrayed by Butterfield) as he shepherds souls into the afterlife. Not much else is known of the film’s further plot, but more will be revealed once the project is taken to the American Film Market to rally interest from potential distributors.

Kodi Smit-McPhee – who voiced the lead in Paranorman – was originally cast as the grim reaper, but is believed to have dropped out due to scheduling difficulties.

Anderson’s last film role was in Robot Overlords, and she will soon be back on the small screen in her iconic role as Dana Scully from The X-Files. She is also currently filming the period drama Viceroy’s House in India. Meanwhile, Butterfield is due to star in Miss Peregrine’s House For Peculiar Children, while Tucci is set to return in the last instalment of The Hunger Games, this November.
