In a surprising departure from her usual musical ventures, Nicki Minaj is set to enter the world of situation comedy, starring in a new series based on her life.

According to Deadline, the as-yet-untitled show (produced and broadcast on the American network, ABC) will focus on events taken directly from Minaj’s childhood and her musical education in Queens, New York. As well as acting as executive producer, Minaj is also set to star in the show.

The pilot for the proposed series will be written by Kate Angelo (the screenwriter behind The Back Up Plan and Sex Tape), and will be filmed this Winter. If successful, the pilot will be commissioned into a full series.

Speaking of the news, Minaj stated: “This is one of the more unique adventures I’ve ever embarked on. I couldn’t be more proud and excited to team up with an amazing group of people to give the world something really special.”

Meanwhile, ABC Family’s EVP Programming and Development Karey Burke said: “Nicki Minaj is a force to be reckoned with at everything she touches. Nicki is an international superstar, yet not everyone knows how inspiring and hilarious her true story is, and we can’t wait to share it with the world.”

Filming for the pilot will begin this Winter. Watch Minaj’s latest music video below.
