Final Fantasy XV confirmed for 2016

According to director Hajime Tabata, Final Fantasy XV is definitely coming out in 2016.

The franchise is notorious for being relatively vague regarding its release dates, however the window for release has recently been closing for the (sort of) 15th instalment. To put this into context, the game was first announced at E3 in 2006… before Final Fantasy XIII was even a glint in Square Enix’s eye. So expectations are getting pretty high. However, we already knew that it was coming before 2017 – the question was, when?

While some were optimistically hoping that the game may launch at some point later this year, most presumed that it would be released in 2016. This was confirmed to be the case this weekend when, at a special PAX event in Seattle, Tabata claimed that the exact release date would not be revealed until March.

Still, for those who have been waiting upwards of nine years for the game, confirmation that the developer is aiming for a 2016 release date is good news.
