The first trailer for The Dressmaker, starring Kate Winslet and Liam Hemsworth, has been released.
Set in 1950’s Australia, Winslet stars as glamorous fashion designer Myrtle “Tilly” Dunnage, who returns to her hometown after a long absence in order to take care of her sick mother. Trained by Madeleine Vionnet in Paris, Tilly soon transforms the locals with her haute couture creations.
Director Jocelyn Moorhouse described Winslet’s character as “a beautiful talented misfit, a dressmaker, returning home to right the wrongs of the past” and has further expressed her pride in the film’s resplendent locations and costumes.
The film is based on the 2000 novel of the same name, written by Rosalie Ham, and adapted for the screen by Jocelyn Moorhouse. Judy Davis and Hugo Weaver also star.
The Dressmaker is scheduled for release in Australia on 1st October, while the UK and US release dates have yet to be confirmed. Watch the trailer, below.
