Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto have signed up for a fourth Star Trek film, while production on the third installment of the rebooted franchise – Star Trek Beyond – has just begun.

Both Pine and Quinto – who play Captain Kirk and Spock respectively – are thought to have received substantial pay rises in the new deals signed for the fourth film. Pine is thought to be earning $6 million for Star Trek 4, compared to the $600,000 he was paid for the first Star Trek reboot released in 2009.

Justin Lin has recently taken over from JJ Abrams as director of the third film in the series. Star Trek Beyond has been scripted by Doug Jung and Simon Pegg – who recently revealed that he was asked to make the script less ‘Star Trek-y’. Abrams stepped down as director due to his commitment to the next Star Wars film, The Force Awakens, but he will remain with the Star Trek franchise as a producer.

Star Trek Beyond is rumoured to feature Idris Elba as the main villian, and is currently scheduled to be released to cinemas on 8th July 2016.
