Classic gameshow The Crystal Maze makes plans for a comeback

90’s game-show favourite The Crystal Maze is set to be making a comeback in the foreseeable future, according to the show’s social media pages; with hints being dropped on both their twitter and instagram accounts.

It seems that this time around however, the premise will be slightly different – as the showmakers are planning a ‘live immersive experience’ to be held in London. Whilst details are currently fairly sparse, an artist’s impression has been released on what the project will look like when complete.

An artist’s impression of the new ‘live immersive experience’

The basis of the show is for a team to collect as many crystals as they can, by completing camp challenges in different periods of time and space – vying to reach the crystal dome with as many time-rich swarovski orbs as possible. The show featured a host of flamboyant and intriguing characters; none more so than host Richard O’Brien – whose shiny bald head is suspiciously hinted at in artist’s depiction. By entering the dome and collecting 100 gold tickets, the team will each win a special personalized prize, and of course, a souvenir crystal to boot.

The drawing also includes the timezones from the original show – Aztec, Medieval, Industrial, and Futuristic; all of which surround the central crystal dome that acts as the end objective of the game. It truly seems to be a full scale reintroduction to the show, with nothing being held back on its recreation.

The possible return of this nostalgic series will be a pleasant surprise for many fans, marking 20 years since its ending point in 1995.

Fans have been given the opportunity to sign up on the show’s website, registering their interest for what would seem to be an involvement in the live experience. Who knows, maybe they’ll even go the full length and bring back the TV show – a much hoped for idea circulating alongside the vague information we’ve been provided with so far.

Crowdfunding for the project begins on June 14th, so expect more news from the Crystal Dome then… in the meantime, start the fans, please!
