The first official teaser trailer for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 has been released.

Starring Jennifer Lawrence as heroine Katniss Everdeen, Mockingjay: Part 2 is the epic final chapter of the hugely popular movie franchise, based on Suzanne Collins’ dystopian teen novels.

Following the events of the last film, the trailer depicts the rising tension in the districts of Panem, as Katniss and the rebels of District 13 finally enter the Capitol and act on their quest to vanquish the totalitarian tyranny of President Snow.

From The Deathly Hallows to Allegiant, it’s a well known truth that young adult series don’t often result in the happiest of endings. And for fans of The Hunger Games novels, this trailer will no doubt hit several soft spots, as we are given glimpses of several beloved characters that are set to meet grisly ends. In the same sad vein, the trailer also contains some final shots of Plutarch Heavensbee, played by the late Philip Seymour Hoffman – who died during filming last year.

Josh Hutcherson, Liams Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks, Woody Harrelson, Julianne Moore, Sam Claflin and Donald Sutherland all reprise their roles for one last time. There is some fresh meat amongst the cast however, as Game of Thrones‘ actress, Gwendoline Christie, can be seen portraying the role of Commander Lyme.

Director Francis Lawrence recently tweeted that the film’s epilogue had finally been shot, meaning that filming on the franchise has now officially ended.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 is set to be released in cinemas on 20th November.
