Veteran character actress Mary Ellen Trainor has died, at the age of 62. The Die Hard actress known also for appearances in The Goonies and Lethal Weapon, passed away at her California home in May. It is only now however, that a public announcement has been made.

Trainor was married to filmmaker Robert Zemeckis between 1980 and 2000, and in that time had roles in many of a number of his hit films, including Forrest Gump.

The actress is perhaps best known for playing the police psychiatrist, Dr. Stephanie Woods in all four Lethal Weapon movies, but also had a major role as the Walsh boys’ mother in The Goonies. Her long Hollywood career also included small parts in several blockbusters from the 1980s and 1990s, including ScroogedGhostbusters II and Romancing the Stone.

Trainor and ex-husband Zemeckis had one child together – a son named Alexander. The Goonies recently turned 30 years old, making the loss of such a key actress from the cast, all the more upsetting.

Her memorial service will be held in Montecito, California on 19th June.
