With Avengers: Age of Ultron less than two weeks away (in the UK at least), it’s high time that Marvel turned our attention to the project that has most people cocking their eyebrows and smirking. Even the title of Ant-Man alone is enough to inspire many to derision. Yet the latest trailer should set these people’s lips to sealed.
Despite Edgar Wright’s late departure from the project in May of 2014 over script disagreements, the film appears very promising and self-aware. We may cry over a swarm of ants yet.
The film sees Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), a small-time crook recruited by Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) to steal back potentially world-shattering technology from Darren Cross (Corey Stoll). To do this, Lang must take up the helmet of Ant-Man. With Pym’s suit, he can shrink down, have superhuman strength, and communicate and command insects.
Directed by Peyton Reed and also starring Evangeline Lily, Hayley Atwell and Michael Peña, Ant-Man will be released in the UK on 17th July.
