Film round-up: 30/03/2015 – 05/04/2015

With the Easter holidays in full swing and another month into the year, there is no better time for a cinema trip. This week sees the release of the final cut of Ridley Scott’s iconic film Blade Runner, the hard-hitting documentary about Heinrich Himmler’s private affairs in The Decent One, and fast cars and explosions in Fast & Furious 7. Look at a collection of some of the films arriving in the UK this week below.

Altman is a documentary look at the life and work of American filmmaker Robert Altman. It gives an intimate look into the life of a director known for MASHNashville, and The Player.

Blade Runner: The Final Cut, Ridley Scott’s definitive director’s cut of his ground-breaking 1982 film. Set in 2019, Harrison Ford stars as a blade runner sent to find and terminate four replicants who have returned to Earth to find their creator. Based on the novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick, the dystopian sci-fi blurs the lines between machines and humans.

The Dark Horse follows a man who wants to lead a team for the National Chess Championships in six weeks time. What develops is a film about a man searching for the courage to lead and find purpose and hope, based on an emotional true story. There path to the championships is more tumultuous than many might originally expect.

The Decent One is a revelation of the secret personal writings and photographs from the private life of Nazi SS Commander Heinrich Himmler, the man believed responsible for the concentration camps during WWII. It paints a psychological portrait of a man at once devoted to his family and his duty to the Nazi party, with restored footage from German archives.

Detective Byomkesh Bakshi is a thrilling contemporary interpretation of war torn Calcutta during the 1940’s. It brings to life India’s first true-blue detective, as created by Sarandindu Banyopadhyay and follows the adventure of Byomkesh as he pits himself against an evil genius who is out to destroy the world.

Starring Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham is the seventh instalment of the Fast & Furious series, Fast & Furious 7. The film centres on the vengeance of special forces assassin Deckard Shaw against Dominic Toretto after the death of his brother, with lots of explosions and fast cars along the way.
