14 years ago today, on February 11th 2001, OutKast’s hip-hop classic ‘Ms. Jackson’ hit the top of the US charts. It also rose up to number 2 in the UK, but was held off by Atomic Kitten’s ‘Whole Again’.

The second single from the Atlanta duo’s fourth album Stankonia, was released in January and slowly climbed to the peak, spending a total of 12 weeks in the top 10 of the Billboard top 100.

The single went on to win a Grammy in 2002 for Best Rap Performance by a Group/Duo. Obviously Andre 3000 and Big Boi went on to continue their success with the Speakerboxxx/The Love Below album, including ‘Roses’ and Jesters classic ‘Hey Ya!’.

Meanwhile Shaggy, who OutKast replaced at the top, found success in the album charts off of the back of his legendary number one single ‘It Wasn’t Me’. Hot Shot spent a month at the top of the Billboard album charts, before being knocked off, then hit back with another two-week spell in the number one spot.
