Sam Smith unveils video for ‘Lay Me Down’ – watch

Grammy and Brit nominee, Sam Smith, has unveiled the video for his new single ‘Lay Me Down,’ the latest track off his platinum-selling debut album In the Lonely Hour.

Smith’s debut album was released back in May 2014 and it seems it is still on everyone’s minds. After releasing his voice to everyone’s attention back in 2013 on Naughty Boy’s track ‘La La La’, it seems we all can’t get enough.

The video, filmed at the parish church of St. Margaret, Lee outside London and directed by Ryan Hope, finds Smith performing his ballad in front of what appears to be a mournful funeral but turns out to be a joyous gay marriage. From dark to light, Sam Smith stamps same-sex marriage firmly on the entertainment map.

Same-sex marriage came into force in the UK in March 2014 and though recognised in 36 states in the US, it is still an issue of contention between the church and the state.

Controversially, Sam has chosen this image for his new video and in it he epically takes on any remaining issues surrounding same-sex marriage. As ever, Sam Smith’s tone is beautiful and ethereal, touching emotions universally.
