Graham Linehan on IT Crowd spinoff

Creator of cult British sitcom The IT Crowd, Graham Linehan has told the Radio Times that he’d love to see a spinoff revolving around antagonist Douglas Reynholm.

Douglas, owner of Reynholm Industries and affluent, misogynistic boss to the three protagonists of the show, is played by Matt Berry.

“I could easily spend an hour, or half an hour, with Douglas. He’s my favourite way of making fun of people that I really loathe, like Rupert Murdoch and Donald Trump,” Linehan revealed.

“I basically just have happen to him all the things that I’d love to happen to them, and it’s basically a really enjoyable process.”

Linehan also said that Berry is one of his favourite people to work with, due to his “extraordinary voice.” Berry has done a range of work as a voice artist, and is known as the voice of Absolute Radio and various MoneySupermarket advertisement campaigns, among other things.

Linehan continued, “this is just a half-formed thing at the moment, and also I’ve got to wait and see if Matt would be interested in revisiting the character. He’s obviously carving out a new role for himself as a writer and star as well, so I’ll stay out of the way at the moment and pounce when he’s taking a rest.”

This is potentially great news for fans of The IT Crowd, which aired its final episode over a year ago, in September 2013. For now, they can look forward to the remake for American audiences.
