Katy Perry has announced the name of her new album, and a release date of later this year.

Prism will be the Californian singer’s fourth studio album, and will be released on 22nd October 2013 according to a golden lorry which drove through Los Angeles yesterday afternoon.

The lorry which drove through the city was gold, with black capitals emblazoned along the side, reading “KATY PERRY · PRISM · 10.22.13.” Friend of Perry, stylist Johnny Wujek, photographed the vehicle and later posted it on Instagram alongside the caption “Wahoo. My girls new album is announced. PRISM. 10.22.13. Get ready to be enLIGHTened#you’reGonnaflip #everysongisaHit.”

Perry has since announced that she will retweet everyone who photographs the lorry and sends her a photo. She also hinted that the vehicle will be travelling through various other cities, writing “Don’t worry, Los Angeles is just the first stop on the map.”

Anticipation for the singer’s fourth studio album has been building steadily for the past year, following the release of her final single ‘Wide Awake’ from the reissue of her 2010 album Teenage Dream, to accompany her film Part Of Me.

In April, American music magazine Billboard reported that songwriters including Max Martin, Sia, Dr. Luke and Greg Wells were involved in the album, which was half completed. In the same article Perry confirmed that there will be a track called ‘Double Rainbow’ on the new album. Last month she told L’Uomo Vogue that the album would be “darker,” taking inspiration from her personal life.
