Joiners named as Britain’s Best Small Venue by NME, announces new Frank Turner show

Southampton venue The Joiners has been announced as the winner of NME’s search for Britain’s Best Small Venue.

After being voted the Best Small Venue in the region a couple of weeks ago, the city centre venue has beaten off competition from across Britain in a public vote. Over 76,000 votes were cast in the final poll which saw the iconic venue beat off competition from venues including The Sugarmill in Stoke, Concorde 2 in Brighton and Band On The Wall in Manchester among others.

After a difficult few years, this award will hopefully provide the help that the Joiners needs to continue to provide Southampton with quality live music for the foreseeable future. Joiners takes the title – which is sponsored by JD Roots – from Tunbridge Wells Forum who were awarded it in 2012.

On winning the title, Joiners owner Pat thanked people via Facebook for voting for the venue, adding that whilst the venue is never going to make him rich, it has made him “rich in meeting the best people in Southampton and all over the south coast.”

To celebrate the victory, Winchester-born Frank Turner will once again headline Joiners for a one-off show on June 24th, having previously played two benefit performances in Joiners in December to help the venue stay open. More recently The Vaccines also played a show in support of the venue. Information on how to get tickets to the exclusive show are available here.
