Daft Punk’s first new single in eight years, ‘Get Lucky’, has broken Spotify’s streaming record for most streams in a single day.

Although the website has not released the exact figures, the track had the biggest streaming day for any single track in both the UK and the USA when it was released this week.

Featuring Pharrell Williams and guitarist Nile Rodgers, ‘Get Lucky’ beat the record previously held by Bastille’s ‘Pompeii’ in the UK and Macklemore’s ‘Thrift Shop’ in the US.

Spotify’s director of label relations Will Hope said that the company expects the album Random Access Memories to ‘become one of the biggest, if not the biggest, on Spotify this year’.

Random Access Memories will be the first studio album released by the French duo since 2005’s Human After All. The new album will be released on 20th May this year.
