The Drums’ Jonny Pierce goes solo & reveals new track

Frontman of 2010 break out band The Drums, Jonny Pierce, has today announced his solo career with his debut track ‘I Didn’t Realise’, and the promise of an album in 2013 which he has written, recorded and produced.

The Drums released their self titled debut album in 2010 to critical acclaim after being shortlisted for the BBC Sound of 2010 award. However, after a changing line-up, their sophomore record Portamento – released in 2011 – performed poorly both critically and commercially.

A message from Pierce on his solo career reads:

“Some might say it’s strange for a man to bare his soul the way I do on this album, but I wanted to do something that exposed me for who I am even more so than anything I have done with The Drums … I wanted to be as self-indulgent as possible with this album. This is pop done the way I think it should be done.”

It has yet to be confirmed whether this marks an end to The Drums.

  1. Well their last album was dire and there had already been rumours of ‘splits’ so it wouldn’t surprise me if they had called it a day.

  2. Well, there last album wasn’t ‘dire’ it was amazing, and if you can’t except change or the evolution of a band then i’m sorry but you shouldn’t be let to listen to music.
