AIM Seeking to Help Save The Talking Heads

Southampton University’s Alternative and Indie Music Society (AIM) have revealed that they are to donate all door money from Monday’s (January 9th) Frequency to the campaign to save local live music venue The Talking Heads.

Frequency, the society’s monthly gig event, will take place on Monday on level 2 of the main SUSU building, and this month features acoustic musician Charlotte Campbell, Watford-based rockers Corolla, and winners of the December Battle of the Bands Hair Force One. AIM President Rob Leane released the following statement:

As President of the Alternative and Indie Music Society, I am pleased to announce AIM’s support for the Save Our Heads campaign.

One of only a handful of venues in Southampton that showcases local up-and-coming acts alongside national touring artists, The Talking Heads is an integral hinge in our local indie and alternative scene.

At this moment, where money troubles are threatening to close the venue down, it’s vital that local music fans stick together. Due to this, the AIM Committee has come to the decision to donate all the door money we receive from Frequency this Monday, along with donations collected on the night, to the Save Our Heads campaign.

It isn’t publicly known how much cash is needed to save the beloved venue, but everyone at AIM hopes that our donations can count towards rescuing the Heads. I know we pester you about Frequency every month, but this time it’s even more crucial that you come and enjoy an evening of top live music!

The campaign, dubbed “Save Our Heads”, was set up as a Facebook page yesterday evening (January 6th) and now has almost 3,000 ‘likes’. A push for the subject to trend nationwide on Twitter, using the hashtag #saveourheads, is also generating a lot of activity, with support in the form of retweets coming from musicians Frank Turner, Everything Everything, comedian Robin Ince, footballer Richard Chaplow, and others.

Frequency takes place this Monday (January 9th) on level 2 of the SUSU building. Entry is £2 or £1 with an AIM wristband.
