Original Black Sabbath to Reunite?

It has been confirmed that the original four members of English heavy metal powerhouse Black Sabbath — vocalist Ozzy Osbourne, guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler and drummer Bill Ward — have called a press conference in Los Angeles, California next Friday, with an as-yet unconfirmed “special announcement” to be made by the group.

The event is set to take place at precisely 11:11am on November 11th (11/11/11) at the legendary Whisky a Go-Go concert venue, the same place the group made their LA debut exactly 41 years ago to the day. All four original members are slated to be present for the event, which will be hosted by singer-songwriter Henry Rollins, best known for his work with 80s punk rock band Black Flag.

Despite persistent and recurring rumours of an original lineup reunion, Iommi (the only constant member of the band) has categorically denied that Sabbath will be returning to action. Messages are conflicting however, as a joint tour with fellow metal legends Judas Priest and Motörhead has been rumoured, and Osbourne has labelled a reunion a “very, very strong possibility” as recently as last month.

The Edge will keep you up to date on all developments resulting from Friday’s press conference.
