A card of John Lennon’s fingerprints have been seized by the FBI from a memorabilia dealer in New York.

The prints, that were taken in a New York police station in 1976 when Lennon applied for permanent US residence, were due for auction of Saturday 9th October as part of an event to celebrate what would have been Lennon’s 70th birthday. But these rare artifacts, that were expected to fetch over $100,000, were claimed under the pretense that these prints were government documents. An FBI official told BBC News that they beleived the prints to be government property, and would be investigating how these prints ended up in private hands.

The set of prints were amongst another 850 Lennon artifacts due to be auctioned on Saturday.
