One thing you would not expect from Austria’s leading techno duo is to team up with Mumford & Sons’ lead guitarist. One thing you would not expect from Mumford & Sons’ lead guitarist is to team up with Austria’s leading techno duo. Yet on 24th March, HVOB + Winston Marshall released Silk, a dark and brooding collaboration album of alternative techno.
The project was preceded by lead single ‘The Blame Game’, a ‘dark and emotionally driven indie electronic anthem of acoustic elements and soft basslines,’ according to dance publication Data Transmission. It is easy to see the influence of both sides as indie and techno collide to form a haunting, yet uplifting experimental track. Though a sonic departure for both artists, Marshall is no stranger to the genre; he currently curates a bi-monthly night of techno DJs at London’s OMEARA.
The three musicians embark on The Silk Tour 2017 in April, covering major European cities over 15 dates. Though HVOB’s music is usually at home on late-night club stages, their collaboration with Marshall sees their live show move out on to concert stages. The UK date of the tour will be at London’s Oval Space on 27th April, but HVOB and Marshall will also reunite in July for a show at Latitude Festival in Suffolk.
This one-off tour is full of unknowns – make sure you are in London for the answers.
