Over 100,000 festival goers will head to the Basque Country in Spain to attend one of the country’s biggest rock and pop music festivals: Bilbao BBK Live.

The festival takes place each year in a special complex built specifically for the event on the slopes of Mount Cobetas. Since its inception in 2006 the festival has gone from strength to strength, and the 2016 edition of Bilbao BBK Live promises to be the best yet.

The line-up boasts some of the biggest names in music, as well as numerous artists who are widely considered to be the next big thing. Canadian indie rockers Arcade Fire will headline the opening Friday. The six-piece from Montreal have an extensive back catalogue that is sure to please the international crowd, and will no doubt include many hits from their highly successful second, third and fourth albums. Saturday’s headliners are alternative rockers Pixies, whilst those attending on Sunday will be treated to joint headliners Foals and Tame Impala.

There are a plethora of other artists to sink your teeth into, with the likes of New Order, Chvrches, Years & Years, Underworld, Grimes, Editors, Wolf Alice and Blossoms also making appearances across the weekend.

BBK Live is incredibly easy to get to, even if you’re travelling internationally. Bilbao’s airport is just nine kilometres from the city centre, and the festival will be running free non-stop buses from the city to Kobetamendi, the mountain the festival is held on. Bilbao is rich with culture and is definitely worth exploring during in the days either side of the festival. With incredible architecture and the stunning Guggenheim Museum, there really is something for everyone in the city.
