Preview: Oasis Festival 2016

Often known as the Red City, Marrakech has long been a popular tourist destination. Home to palaces and gardens, a bustling souk and markets, Marrakech is a hot-pot of cultures. It has only recently, however, become a destination for those seeking to party to the sounds of house and techno.

Oasis Festival made its debut last year at the Fellah Hotel and was met with unanimous praise and support from Resident Advisor, Deep House Amsterdam, and Mixmag, who noted that Oasis had a truly unique atmosphere unlike the kind of summer festival we’ve become accustomed to in Europe, and more akin to a top-notch villa party. That seems a little unsurprising when you consider that the main stage is a pool overlooked by a terrace DJ booth.

2016 will see Oasis continue to evolve by relocating to another of Marrakech’s premiere hotels, The Source, from the 16th to 18th September. Tranquil pools and lush gardens set against the backdrop of the Atlas Mountains will make for a stunning setting that truly lives up to the idea of an Oasis.

To back up the festival’s promise of an unforgettable getaway, the initial lineup release delivers faultlessly; Radio 1 taste-maker B. Traits, sits alongside 80s techno pioneer Derrick May, on a roster of some of the finest artists in house, techno and beyond. The likes of Bicep, Tale of Us, Omar Souleyman, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Midland, Eli & Fur, Maya Jane Coles, Dusky, George Fitzgerald, among others, make up a who’s who of internationally acclaimed underground artists, with still more names to come.

Coming in at the tail end of a summer packed with festivals, Oasis offers something a little different, a chance to unwind, the opportunity to relax in a breathtaking surrounding, all to the soundtrack of some of the best DJs in the business.
