The Quireboys are currently on a tour of the UK being billed as ‘Unplugged and Uprofnt’, which will be stopping in at Southampton’s Joiners next week.

Formed in London in 1984 as ‘The Choirboys’, they went through a few name changes and shifts in their lineup before releasing their debut album A Bit Of What You Fancy in 1990. The album, containing the hit singles ‘Hey You‘ and ‘7 O’Clock’, climbed to #2 in the UK album charts. Just as things seemed to be going so well however, the band became one of the many victims of the grunge scene, whose sudden domination of the musical mainstream killed off many of the aspiring, glam-tinted hard rockers of the 80’s. In the wake of this, the band split shortly after the release of their sophomore album Bittersweet and Twisted.

However, there was life left in the band yet: After a brief run of live shows in 1995, the band fully reformed in 2001 and have been touring and releasing albums consistently since. Today only frontman Jonathan ‘Spike’ Gray and guitarist Guy Griffin remain from their early 90’s glory days, but if last year’s ‘Beautiful Curse’ is anything to go by, The Quireboys still have plenty to offer the world. This acoustic tour will give a fresh new take on some of their more established material as well as some new songs and rarities. An intimate evening with some hard rock veterans that is sure to be something special!
