Preview: Alt-J (∆) DJ Set at RoXX (26/04/13)

On Friday, the much-hyped Alt-J make their Southampton debut with a DJ set at RoXX. The electronic-folk-trip-hop quartet were the indie darlings of 2012, having been nominated for the Mercury Music Prize for their debut album An Awesome Wave. Alt-J compliment moody guitars with intimate lyrics, backed by synth samples and pacy percussion. Their unusual fusing of genres stems from a musicality that is typical of a much maturer band. And this feeds into their DJing; they have already brought their musical knowledge to Reading and Leeds festivals, where they performed DJ sets in 2012, and now they’re coming to Southampton. You can check out Alt-J’s Thom’s mixing skills here at his SoundCloud.

Supporting Alt-J’s Friday set will be DJ sets from Tom Dyer and Little Chief, with live bands Pella and I Remember Tapes – ‘a modern mashup of atmospheric synths, melodic indie guitar riffs and sharp electro beats’- also playing.

Early bird tickets have sold-out, and if you don’t want to miss out you can buy tickets for Friday’s show at RoXX here.

Alt-J are currently touring their debut album, An Awesome Wave, in the UK, and are playing Glastonbury festival in June.
