Not heard of Savages? Neither had I until a few weeks ago, but this post-punk London all-girl four-piece, (who have barely been together for a year) are certainly receiving some welcomed interest. They describe their intention as being to “create a sound, indestructible and musically solid, written for the stage, designed with enough nuances to provide a wide range of emotions”. Ambitious, but they’re going the right way about it. Official single ‘Husbands’ is short and sweet and it’s the creative simplicity leaves you in anticipation of further raw and lively tracks on an album that will no doubt appear. Lead singer Jehnny Beth’s fierce intensity on stage has led to her being described as the female version of Ian Curtis. She sings fast, she almost howls, yet she somehow whispers with energy. Vocals from the rest of the band are echoed back. With humming rhythm guitar, pulsing bass riffs, and solid drum beats accompanied with the sharp snap of the high-hat and clear-cut vocals, it works, and it works well. They’re talented, punchy, intriguing and they’re fucking cool. Savages will perform at The Joiners on Tuesday 6th August, supported by Palma Violets.

Tickets are from £6 online in advance and the event is for over 14′s only. Tickets can be purchased here.
