Ella Eyre has been announced as the headline act for University of Southampton’s Graduation Ball 2014.

The 20-year-old British singer will perform at the event in Oceana, Southampton, on 9th June 2014.

Eyre recently unveiled her new single ‘If I Go‘ on Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show, having previously released ‘Deeper‘. She also featured on the number one Rudimental single ‘Waiting All Night‘ which was named Single of the Year at the 2014 BRIT Awards.

Each day this week, a new act has been announced for the event, with the line-up now featuring Ella Eyre, Lawson, Gorgon City, Duncan and Simon from Blue, Danny Howard, The Wanted’s Tom Parker, The Mariachis and the Speakeasy and the Monroes dancers.

The Hollywood theme of the event will see the nightclub transformed, as six rooms will follow different American themes; Oscars, Gatsby’s, Casino Royale, Saturday Night Fever, All American Carnival and The Chinese Theatre.

Tickets priced at £39 sold out earlier this year.

This is what happens when you have someone like Dave as pres. If you want to point the finger of blame for the weak lineup then point it at Gilani. Gilani decided to drop the ticket price by £10 – after the budgets had been set, and also certain acts booked. By cutting the price of the ticket as a last min decision this has effected all your acts for the venue – that one move took away £30,000 from the budget for the grad ball, £30,000 that would have been used for a higher class of act, this is why you will not have the same class of acts that the union has provided in the past. Dave Gilani you have ruined it for everyone – i hope your happy – but at least everyone will know it was your fault. Ill be awaiting Gilani’s next blog post to say that this is all not true ……

I think it’s a really good line-up, especially for the ticket price. Also, he’s said previously that the money spent on the event hasn’t changed from last year, due to the surplus of money from the success of SUSU events this year and because they have been overly-cautious with spending on the Grad Ball in other years.

I can tell you as a fact – that statement was a load of Gilani rubbish to ensure that us students were not put off. The spend on the Grad Ball was significantly less. Its time Dave doesn’t always just get away with things that he ruins.

          Hey Grad/b,

I’m sorry but that’s just completely untrue. In fact, the spend on the Grad Ball this year was actually increased from last year – because more people bought tickets than previous years. This increased popularity of the ball allowed us to spend more on acts… so even when we had our line-up sorted and Zane pulled out from his DJ set, we were able to invest a bit more in to get a full live performance from Ella Eyre because we knew that more people had bought tickets.

So I take complete responsibility for investing roughly £8,000 more into the entertainments for the Ball compared to last year, whilst also bringing down the ticket price for every single student by £10. That’s why the Ball is sold out with dozens of students still trying to buy tickets on the Facebook Event.
