It has been announced today that radio DJs from Southampton University have become world record holders.

The DJs from 9AM Automatic, a show on Surge Radio, were given the title of ‘The fastest time to wrap a person in newspaper’ and they achieved this live on Surge on the 27th April 2013, in three minutes and five seconds.

9AM Automatic were one of the most well loved student shows on Surge Radio, having won Surge prizes for both most enthusiastic and most persistent show. They now have another accolade to add to their trophy cabinet!

This is the first time DJs from Surge Radio have achieved a world record; but hopefully this will encourage many more shows to take the initiative that they did.

David Martin, SUSU’s Vice President Democracy and Creative Industries has said:

This is a fantastic achievement for Surge, and exemplifies the innovation of its presenters as well as the spontaneous and fun atmosphere of the station and I’m very proud of them! Well done to the 9AM Automatic team who thoroughly deserve the award!

9AM Automatic will return to the airwaves when term starts.
