100 Discs of Christmas #74 – Toy Story 3 (2010)

Director Lee Unkrich’s heart-warming animated charmer may well be the best of the beloved Toy Story series. It serves as a rather beautiful and moving goodbye to the characters Pixar created more than fifteen years ago.

Andy is off the university, and is faced with the task of donating his old toys before he leaves. When Woody, Buzz and co are mistaken for donations to a playgroup, a ‘Great Escape’-style breakout is planned, particularly when the native playgroup toys prove less than friendly.

A collection of new characters freshen things up a bit (including Barbie-boyfriend Ken and a sinister Teddy bear Lotso), but Unkrich knows the audience’s affection lies with the old crew.

Toy Story 3 (2010), directed by Lee Unkrich, is released on blu-ray and DVD in the UK by Walt Disney Studios, Certificate U.
