Warner Bros. have officially announced that the Harry Potter spin-off series will be released 18th November 2016.

The first release will be the start of a trilogy, and is to be based on J.K. Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them Hogwarts textbook. The 54-page textbook was originally published in 2001.

With regard to casting and directing, nothing has been revealed. We do, however, know that David Heyman (the producer of the Harry Potter film phenomenon) will produce the films and Rowling herself will be the screenwriter. The trilogy will focus on the character of Newton Scamander, an author and ‘magizoologist’ who dedicates his career to magical creatures.

The films are to be set in around 70 years before the Harry Potter series, and are not to be viewed as prequels, but a trilogy in its own right.

Last year, Rowling wrote on her Facebook page with some information on the upcoming trilogy: “The laws and customs of the hidden magical society will be familiar to anyone who has read the Harry Potter books or seen the films, but Newt’s story will start in New York, seventy years before Harry’s gets underway.”

J.K. Rowling’s book ‘The Cuckoo’s Calling’, which she wrote under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith, will have its sequel, ‘The Silkworm’, released next month.
