This week at Union Films we have squeezed in as many awesome films as physically possible, because this week is the long anticipated introduction of 3D! Yes you heard me right, we are showing 3D films for the first time ever here at Union Films. So alongside our usual Tuesday and Sunday films (this week the mysterious Stoker, fantasy film Hansel and Gretel and the latest Disney film Wreck-It Ralph) we have 6 classic 3D films spanning Thursday to Saturday. It’s going to be a busy week… you’d be crazy to miss it.
Tuesday 14th May: 7pm: Stoker:
Psychological thriller Stoker follows the story of 18 year old India Stoker. After India’s father dies, her Uncle Charlie, who she never knew existed, comes to live with her and her unstable mother. She comes to suspect this mysterious, charming man has ulterior motives and becomes increasingly infatuated with him.
Paloma is a serious and highly articulate but deeply bored 11-year-old who has decided to kill herself on her 12th birthday. Fascinated by art and philosophy, she questions and documents her life and immediate circle, drawing trenchant and often hilarious observations on the world around her. But as her appointment with death approaches, Paloma finally meets some kindred spirits in her building’s grumpy janitor and an enigmatic, elegant neighbour, both of whom inspire Paloma to question her rather pessimistic outlook on life. In French with subtitles.

After getting a taste for blood as children, Hansel and Gretel have become the ultimate vigilantes, hell-bent on retribution. Now, unbeknownst to them, Hansel and Gretel have become the hunted, and must face an evil far greater than witches… their past. An action-horror, dark fantasy film packed with dark humour and staring Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton this twist on the classic fairy tale is not one to be missed.
Wreck-It Ralph is the 9-foot-tall, 643-pound villain of an arcade video game named Fix-It Felix Jr., in which the game’s titular hero fixes buildings that Ralph destroys. Wanting to prove he can be a good guy and not just a villain, Ralph escapes his game through the power cord and enters a whole world of possibilities, meeting a variety of classic game characters and more. This latest installation from Disney is a brilliantly funny film; definitely one to dispel the exam blues!
So there you have it, one jam-packed line up to relieve all that exam related stress and get you out of the library for a couple of hours. Please, for your own health, come and watch a great film and relax at Union Films.
