So with only two weeks to go until the Lord of the Rings All-Nighter, Union Films are taking the opportunity to give us a week of comedy, romance, music and more! Kicking us off this week in our Tuesday 7pm slot we have the bizarre mixture of neurosis and humour in Silver Lining Playbook. The Phoenix film of the week, as ever at 7:30 on Wednesday, is Amour a quietly moving story of love in the face of catastrophe. First up of the Sunday films at 5pm is Pitch Perfect, the feel good battle of the  a cappella groups at an American college, followed by Seven Psychopaths, a black comedy following, believe it or not, the kidnapping of a gangster’s beloved Shih Tzu.

Tuesday 26th February: 7pm: Silver Lining Playbook: silver linings playbook

An American rom-com film directed by David O. Russell, adapted from the book of the same name by Matthew Quick. Pat Jr (Bradley Cooper) comes home to find his wife in the shower with another man. After nearly beating the guy to death Pat is sent for an 8 month stint in a mental health facility, after which he is determined to get his life back together and win back his wife, who took out a restraining order on him. Pat forms a friendship with fellow neurotic Tiffany (Jenifer Lawrence) and the film follows the two as they try and overcome their problems together.

Sunday 3rd March: 5pm: Pitch Perfect:

The Barden Bellas are a collegiate, all-girls a cappella singing group thriving on female pop songs and their perfect looks. But after a failing at last year’s finals, they are forced to regroup. Among the new recruits is freshman Beca (Anna Kendrick), an independent, aspiring DJ with no interest in the college life. But after she meets Jesse, from the rival all-male a cappella group, Beca has a new outlook and takes it upon herself to help the Bellas find their new look and sound and get back into the competition. Glee for the big screen this is the perfect feel good film, for a more in depth review click here!

Sunday 3rd March: 8pm: Seven Psychopaths: seven psychopaths

Marty (Collin Farell) is a struggling screenwriter with an oddball best friend Billy, an unemployed actor who makes his living from kidnapping dogs and returning them for the advertised reward money. Unfortunately for them he inadvertently kidnaps a gangster’s beloved Shih Tzu and the pair and their ‘psychopath’ friends become entangled in the Los Angeles criminal underworld. Black humour and guns galore, this film is a quirky comedy from the producers of In Bruges.
