Union Films: What’s Coming Up This Week (04/02/13)

0

We’re back again this week, and we’re covering any genre that might take your fancy! Prohibition era crime drama comes from Lawless on Tuesday, then Phoenix is showing WWII romance film The Well Digger’s Daughter Wednesday. Saturday sees the return of our Audience Choice; romantic comedy 10 Things I Hate About You. The week rounds off with cop thriller End of Watch and teen fantasy film Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2 on Sunday.

Tuesday 5th February at 7pm: Lawless:

Potentially one for the guys, this is a film about a bootlegging gang who rise up against the authorities. But fear not ladies, it stars TOM HARDY, Shia LeBeouf and Gary Oldham. The Bondurant brothers sell moonshine during the Prohibition era and get away with it…until the newly-appointed Special Deputy Charley Rakes (Guy Pearce) comes along demanding a cut of the profits. Leader brother, Forrest (the afore mentioned Tom Hardy) wages war against the Special Deputy and so it becomes a fight to the death between the outlaws and the police. Tense, dramatic and starring Tom Hardy, this film is all you’ll need to excite your Tuesday night.

Wednesday 6th February at 7.30pm: The Well Digger’s Daughter:

Set in the South of France at the beginning of World War II, The Well Digger’s Daughter follows Patricia (the somewhat-titular character) who meets a young man and soon ends up carrying his child while he goes off to war, leaving her family to deal with the out-of-wedlock pregnancy. Her father’s sense of honour being waged against his love for his daughter is what makes this film truly touching and worthwhile.

Saturday 9th February at 7pm: Audience Choice:

Audience Choice is all about Romance this month. But that certainly doesn’t leave out the single population of Southampton! The winner was 10 Things I Hate About You, beating Moulin Rouge and (500) Days of Summer, so you can revel in the break-up melodrama and hope for a happy ending for unlikely-duo Kat (Julia Stiles) and Patrick (Heath Ledger) – with, or without, a partner – because no one will begrudge having to sit through this amazing, 90’s teen rom-com! And remember to keep an eye out for our next Audience Choice, Mystery on 2nd March.

Sunday 10th February at 5pm: End of Watch:

With a pretty impressive cast of Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Peña and Anna Kendrick to name a few, this is a cop movie with a twist. The two officers who confiscated a small amount of money from a notorious gang think they’ve hit the jackpot in their career. But, little do they know, a price has been put on their heads. Watch them try and get out of this one in truly great style, filmed with a ‘found footage’ technique on Sunday – and check out The Edge’s review here for good measure!

Sunday 10th February at 8pm: The Twilight Saga Breaking Dawn Part 2:

For what may be the last time Union Films ever shows a Twilight film, we’re completing this week with the final instalment, Breaking Dawn Part 2. After Edward and Bella’s daughter is born, the Cullens need to protect to the child from a false allegation that puts the family in danger from the Volturi, so they round up anyone they can get. If you’ve seen (and liked) all the rest, come down and catch the last chapter to this epic story. If not, this one is said to be the best of the series, so put that to the test anyway! To be swayed of your decision, check out The Edge’ review here.

So, that’s our week all rounded up for you! Remember, you can still get your Spring Season Passes at the box office and make a huge saving for the rest of the films this term! Most of all, make sure you come down to at least one of the amazing films we’ve got on this week!

PS: Keep an eye out for our awesome Pixar vs Dreamworks battle movie marathon coming up next week!
