Top 10 games still to come in 2014 (Part 2 of 2)

In the previous article, 5 of the games coming in 2014 with a currently listed release date were discussed. In this article 5 more games that, pending disaster or naughty game developers, should release in 2014 are discussed.

Batman: Arkham Knight

Following the luke-warm reception given to Batman: Arkham Origins in 2013, developer Rocksteady Studios has again taken the reins of the Batman video game series for the first time since 2011’s Batman: Arkham City. This game is releasing solely on next-gen systems and PC, and will hopefully allow for an even more immersive open-world. More importantly, this game marks the first in the series to feature the Batmobile. From the trailer already released, Arkham Knight looks like a hell of a lot of fun and has the potential to win new fans. The mysterious Arkham Knight also does not refer to Batman, rather to a new character developed by Rocksteady in conjunction with DC comics. Intriguing.

Release Date: October 14th 2014 for PC, Xbox One and PS4.

Assassin’s Creed: Unity

Assassins-Creed-Unity-officially-announced-for-PC-next-gen-consoles-with-Alpha-trailer-screenshots-1-1024x576Ubisoft have sprung many leaks as of late, and so the announcement of a new Assassin’s Creed game did not come of much suprise due to the screenshots leaked in advance. The series may currently see a yearly release much like Call of Duty and FIFA, but this does not deter the paying public who seemingly lap up the old-school assassinations and parkour. Like Arkham Knight, this is only being released on next-gen systems and PC, so perhaps this might be the first truly next-gen Assassin’s Creed game (IV was released on PS4 and Xbox One, but did not feel like it fully utilized the power of both systems). Time period wise, Unity is set during the French Revolution and it remains to be seen whether there will be much improvement over previous games. Still no sign of fedual Japan though, which I think would be perfect for the series. There are also rumours of another game coming in 2014 for the last-gen systems. If this turns out to be true, we will be busy assassins.

Release Date: Final quarter 2014 for PC, Xbox One and PS4.

Driveclub

Like Watchdogs, Driveclub has also suffered delays, to the point where a release date has still not been confirmed since the announcement of the delay in October 2013. This should be a beautiful racing game when it is released, and hopefully will show off the true graphical DRIVECLUB4grunt of the PS4. A large emphasis has also been placed on social interaction within the game and so this shouldn’t be a run of the mill racing sim. Not much more is known about Driveclub at this point but it is still a highly anticipated game. Any more lengthy delays though and enthusiasm may well wane.

Release Date: 2014 at some point for PS4. Hopefully soon.

Halo

Halo_Xbox_One_Reveal_02Although I am a PS4 owner, I can’t deny Xbox One owners their source of joy. Halo was announced by Microsoft at E3 2013 and should look absolutely beautiful on the Xbox One. Not much is known about the game at this point other than that it will be a sequel to 2012’s Halo 4. Expectations are rightly high for this game, but the teaser trailer looked promising and hopefully will deliver on the next instalment in an extremely well received series.

Release Date: Late 2014 for Xbox One

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U

Whilst not the catchiest title in the world, like Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros is a Nintendo exclusive that is extremely fun to play. From Mario to Luigi, Pikachu to Donkey Kong, there is a whole raft of characters that will be playable in the competitive fighting game and will be a game to invite your360465 mates over to play (and not only because you are the only person with a Wii U). Featuring a host of new attacks and take-down moves, could this be a game to sell more of the struggling Wii U console? Unlikely, but still likely to be popular with current owners.

Release Date: 2014 for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U
