Will the Classic Guns N’ Roses Lineup Ever Reform?

1

For years now, avid Guns N’ Roses fans have heard many a rumour that the band would finally be reforming; but these rumours have been dismissed by both guitarist Slash and frontman Axl Rose, who have been known to have their differences, a contributing factor in the split of the rock and roll band. Recently, Rose and Slash have hinted at an original lineup return, as they try and set aside old differences to prepare for their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012.

Slash has admitted to doing a lot of ‘soul searching’ after receiving the news of his former band’s induction into the list of the best rock bands, as well as checking up on old performance footage of the group. In a recent interview with Esquire magazine, he noted the hunger and attitude that he sess when the band performs, saying it was “a lean, hungry thing on its way up”. He went on to talk about the split between him and Axl, explaining that it was a quiet one but due to the huge amount of media attention it was blown completely out of proportion.

Rose has commented on the premature news that he will not be appearing in the lineup for the band’s induction, saying “I’ve got mixed emotions about what the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame actually really is, but at the same time… I really don’t want to spoil it for everybody else.”

Do you want to see a reunion of the legends that are Guns N’ Roses, or is it best to leave the band in the past and let their induction pass by?

  1. I have followed this for years as a massive fan of Guns N’ Roses (past and present), and in my relatively informed opinion I think it will most likely turn out that any combination of Slash, Izzy, Duff and Steven will accept the band’s induction into the R&RHOF. As far as I’m aware, Axl is on talking terms with Duff and Izzy, probably Steve as well, but obviously not Slash. Slash is on talking terms with everyone but Axl. My expectation would be that everyone but Axl will go, not the other way round (everyone but Slash).

Either way, it’s likely that the ‘classic’ lineup will reunite one day, but not in the forseeable future. Axl has his work cut out with doing three-hour shows with the new Guns lineup, and Slash has his second album and presumable touring to keep him busy, so at the moment there’s no need (financial, artistic, philosophical or otherwise) for them to play together. Obviously I want it to happen though, and if it does I am THERE in a flash.
