BluChristmas #8: The Killing Trilogy (2007 – 2011)

The Killing [Forbrydelsen] became something of sensation when it aired on BBC Four in 2010. Since then it has become part of a much larger phenomenon: an influx of quality crime television and fiction from Scandinavia. The British public have greedily consumed their tales of terrible crimes and strong detectives. The Killing features one of the best cops on TV: Detective Inspector Sarah Lund, played by the wonderful Sofie Gråbøl.

The video quality is a very good (though a little fuzzy on Series 1) and a notable step up from the already high quality DVDs Arrow Films initially put out. The only sneaky thing about this release is that one has to buy the complete set if one wishes to watch the show in HD, whereas the DVDs are available as separate editions. It’s great to have the shown on Blu-ray, but it would be nice if new viewers had the chance to sample the series first before buying the complete set!

The Killing Trilogy is released on Blu-ray by Arrow Films, Certificate 15.
