Yes, this week’s This Week in Culture is a little late – I would blame assignment deadlines, but I don’t like excuses, so I’ll hold my hands up. If you can forgive me, I’ll talk you through some great culture picks for this cold December week.

Fuller House returns for its second season this week. The Netflix sitcom is a spin-off of the 1980s/90s comedy Full House, which followed the struggles of a widowed father to raise his three daughters. In Fuller House, the same family is revisited a generation on, with the twist that the eldest daughter, DJ (Candace Cameron Bure) is now a widowed mother with three kids to raise. Her sister Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin) and best friend Kimmy (Andrea Barber) move in with her to help her with her family, mirroring the original plot, with the key stars of Full House all reprising their roles. The show’s first season came to Netflix earlier this year, but now a thirteen episode second season picks up with where we left the Fuller family. Fuller House returns to Netflix on Friday 9th December.

Dead Rising 4 arrives for fans of zombie games this week! The latest in Dead Rising franchise, the game was announced back at E3 earlier in the year, to much excitement. The game returns to the story of photojournalist Frank West, and the best news is, it’s Christmas themed! Set in festive Colorado, Frank must survive the vast open world terrain players have to explore. Published by Microsoft Studios, Dead Rising 4 is playable on Windows PC and Xbox One, and arrives on Tuesday 6th December. Perhaps the perfect game to play with all the family on Christmas Day? Maybe not.

In other gaming news, Microsoft’s chief rivals PlayStation drop their newest game, The Last Guardian, this week. The Japanese game has been designed by Fumito Ueda, who previously made Ico (2001) and Shadow of Colossus (2005). The innovative game follows a young fugitive that befriends a giant bird creature, Trico, as together they attempt to evade the guards after them. The game has had monumental delays in development, as it was originally planned for a 2011 release – but, with any luck, The Last Guardian will finally be released for PlayStation 4 this Friday, 9th December.
