Preview: Freelancers at the Annex Theatre

Freelancers is a musical centred around the world of journalism. Daniel Balance, with his lifelong dream of becoming a writer, starts work at a popular tabloid newspaper. It seems at first like everything will run smoothly, but it soon becomes clear that this is not the case. He has two scary editors ‘breathing down his beck’ and a job-threatening deadline. He subsequently tries to break news with the loveable Paul Muddle and the impressive Penny Sweet. Together, they try to crack the terrible secret at the heart of The Daily Week

Freelancers is the first independent show by SUSU Showstoppers, which has given them some challenges – not only is it all done by themselves, but their tech is sourced by them, their budget is small(ish) and their set is simple. But the directing team found it a fun challenge; they’ve tried to give Freelancers an ‘Edinburgh Fringe’ feel.

Freelancers will be performed by Southampton’s own Showstoppers and is written by Aiden Pittman and Robbie Smith. Cast include Josh Vaatstra as Daniel balance, Charlie Randall as Paul Muddle and Phoebe Judd as Penny Sweet.

The show will be at the Annex Theatre on Wednesday 4th and Thursday 5th of May at 7:30pm. More details can be found here.
