Tension is Brewing

Tension seems to be building in all camps as we watch our favourite characters develop further, no Arya this week but plenty of Tyrion.

Where the slow-paced episode 3 had left off, episode 4 picked up. The audience is provided with thrills, excitement and things are finally heating up!

The crowd’s darling Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) discovers the Jorah Mormont’s (Iain Glen) intention after kidnapping him: to get back in Daenerys’  good graces by bringing her a Lannister. Here is hoping that the next episode shows more of his wit and perceptiveness as he finally reaches his destination.

At the Wall Jon Snow (Kit Harington), now the Lord Commander of Night’s Watch, handles his bureaucratic duties. Snow also proves himself to be a hopeless romantic when he abstains from the allure of a dalliance with Melisandre (Carice van Houten), the red witch. Keep in mind, she is the woman who seduced Stannis Baratheon and subsequently gave birth to the shadow (am I the only one who still thinks that is beyond weird?). Jon still mourns Ygritte’s tragic death, and his undying love for her only makes the female audience sigh with delight.

Meanwhile in King’s Landing, the newly-wed Margaery Tyrell (Natalie Dormer) and Tommen Lannister (Dean-Charles Chapman) experience their first marital problem. The young queen accuses Cersei Lannister of instigating The High Sparrow (Jonathan Pryce), a leader of an over-zealous religious group of fanatics. The self-righteous youngsters are obsessed with purifying the world from all kinds of sinners which results in Loras Tyrell’s (we all remember his homoerotic tendencies) imprisonment. Let us not forget that Cersei has every reason to hate Margaery. Not so long ago she was a queen by Joffrey’s side.  Now that she has taken away another Lannister from his mother Margaery is yet to discover a whole new level of Cersei’s hatred.

Good luck taming this fearsome trio, Jamie

Jaime Lannister is paired up with Bronn on a mission to resolve tensions with House Martell  that arose after Prince Oberyn sacrificed his life for Tyrion against the mountain. There is definitely a ‘bromance’ brewing as they travel to Dorne, bond and fight side by side. Sadly, they are yet to find out who their potential enemies are. In this episode we meet the newest additions to Game of Thrones‘ badass women: Oberyn’s bastard daughters: Obara (Keisha Castle-Hughes), Tyene (Rosabell Laurenti Sellers), and Nymeria Sand (Jessica Henwick). Like the Stark daughters the ‘Sand Snakes’ have plenty to be angry about. Jaime and Bronn better brace themselves.

So our journey through season 5 continues with each new episode better than the last. Waiting till Monday evening has never been more frustrating or exciting and watching Game of Thrones is one of the very few things that keeps us sane during this exam period.

Game of Thrones is broadcast on Sky Atlantic on Mondays at 9pm.
