BBC has revealed the cast for the upcoming adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s The Casual Vacancy, which is also produced in association with HBO.

The cast for the BBC mini-series is to consist of the likes of Michael Gambon, Rory Kinnear, Keeley Hawes, Monica Dolan, Rufus Jones and Julia McKenzie.

Keeley Hawes is to play Samantha Mollison, who is in an unhappy relationship with Miles Mollison, who is to be portrayed by Rufus Jones. Michael Gambon will play Howard (Miles’ father), with Julia McKenzie playing his on-screen wife, while Rory Kinnear is to be the Parish Councillor, Barry Fairbrother. Monica Dolan is to portray Tess Wall.

Sarah Phelps has written the screenplay for the three-part series, whilst Jonny Campbell will direct.

The original book, penned by Rowling, tells the story of a small English town Pagford, which seems like the idyllic town, but when exploring its facade we discover that the townspeople are at war with each other. The book, released back in 2012, has sold over six million copies worldwide.

The mini-series will begin its filming in South West England in a month’s time.
