Adapted from American author Joseph Heller’s satirical historical fiction set during World War II from 1942 to 1944, Northern Stage production presents the play of the same name to the nation. The national tour’s Southampton leg runs from 3rd Jun – 7th Jun.

Directed by Rachel Chavkin and started in May, the play has already received high praise and positive receptions. Being described as “glorious, stunning, hilarious and original”, this play also received a 4 star review from The Independent.

The play is a close adaption to the book, following the story of Captain John Yossarian, a U.S. Army Air Forces bombardier who is trapped in a tricky problem and absurd situation which is where the widely known phrase “Catch-22” is from. Yossarian is intent to survive the war despite the increasing number of flying missions, so he plans to plead insanity in order to get out of having to fly again. At the same time, being able to express his desire not to go on any more missions only proves his sanity. In this logic, there is no win for him.

To find out what happens to Yossarian and his fellow airmen, book you tickets at Nuffield Theatre and find out more information at Northern Stage Production.
