The first trailer has been released for the Batman prequel series, Gotham.

Entertainment Weekly previewed the first trailer for the hotly anticipated Fox TV show, which features Ben McKenzie as a young detective, Jim Gordon. The trailer starts at the beginning of the saga, before the introduction of several super-villains from the Batman comics, such as Catwoman, The Penguin, Poison Ivy and the Riddler. While the show is set before the emergence of the eponymous caped crusader, the trailer teases the involvement of the young Bruce Wayne, as Detective Gordon promises to find out who killed the young boy’s parents.

The show looks set to continue on with the gritty looking approach to the Batman franchise which was made so successful in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy which featured Christian Bale as the central hero. The TV show is created by Bruno Heller, and will feature Sean Pertwee as fan favourite Alfred Pennyworth, who was portrayed by Micheal Caine in Nolan’s film series.

Earlier today Fox committed to a season of at least 13 episodes for Gotham.

Gotham is yet to receive a UK air date, but will likely air in the 2014 -2015 TV season.
