Filming on the second series of BBC Two’s hit crime drama The Fall has begun in Belfast and the BBC have released the first image of Series 2 (pictured in full below). The image shows American actor Gillian Anderson as London Met cop Stella Gibson who is tasked with finding a misogynist serial killer (Jamie Dornan).

Series 2 will pick up after the series one finale and will see Gibson continue her investigation. It is believed the story will take us into more personal territory with Gibson as the killer starts to target her personally.

The first series of The Fall was a big success, though it drew some criticism for its focus of violence towards women. Series two has been given an extended episode run of 6 instalments.

“I’m over the moon to be back in production with this team again and to step into the shoes of the elusive Stella for what promises to be an even darker second season”, said Gillian Anderson in a statement released by the BBC.  Jamie Dornan has also commented, saying “I’m delighted to be back in production for the second series of The Fall. Allan Cubitt has outdone himself, and the scripts are stunning.”

It is not yet known when the BBC will air The Fall, though it was suggested at the end of series one last June that it would be a year-and-a-half wait for the second series. Taking this into account, it is likely the show will air sometime near Christmas this year.
