TV Comedy Pick: Castle

Our next comedy show that we think you should be watching may not seem obvious at first:

Castle

The appearance of comedy shows in major TV Networks has been increasing regularly over the last five years. It seems like writers are trying to duplicate the genius dynamic of Friends with sitcoms about quirky friends like New Girl. But American sitcoms aren’t the only one’s jumping at the rising phenomena: crime shows molding after CSI (first starred on CBS, 2000) have taken a comedic approach to death. ABC’s thrilling Castle first appeared in 2009 and since then it’s fan-base has grown exponentially, reaching 10.64 million viewers this October.

Contrary to CSI’s scientific focalization, producers have created a storyline based on a mystery novel writer who finds inspiration by working alongside the NYPD and a stunning partner. Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Kate Becket (Stana Katic) deliver hilarious murder investigation episodes filled with satirical comedy about death. This originates in the protagonists’ ongoing flirty banter and extends through the comedic setup of the murders themselves. Castle’s ego and the innovation of presenting comedy in a show about death will definitely keep you entertained!

Castle season 6 will return to UK screens on Alibi in 2014. Repeats are shown on Channel 5 on Tuesday nights at 10:00. Seasons 1-5 are available on DVD
