As the theatres move into their Christmas season, this week’s spotlight will be the last of the current semester. This week we’ll be taking a look at the festive offerings of Southampton’s two biggest venues, as well as this years freshers’ show from SUSU’s very own Showstoppers.

The Nuffield – 5/12/13 to 12/1/14
The Nutcracker, this year’s Christmas show, is being brought to life by multiple award-winning director and Nuffield associate Blanche McIntyre. In a magical world where toys come to life and there are adventures to be had, The Nutcracker seems sure to be the best Nuffield Christmas show yet. Called ‘a delicious cupcake’ by The Guardian, the family play set to music seems a surefire hit.

Offers and Deals: Preview tickets at £9 each are available for all performances between 5/12/13 and the afternoon show on 10/12/13. For the remainder of the run, various student discounts are available on tickets for off-peak performances. All available discounts are shown on the online ticketing system.

The Mayflower – 14/12/13 to 12/1/14
This year’s Mayflower Christmas show is the swashbuckling pantomime adventure Robinson Crusoe and the Caribbean Pirates. Starring Brian Conley in the lead role with Lesley Joseph as the Enchantress of the Ocean, the show is brought to life by the same creative team as last year’s outstanding Jack and the Beanstalk. A video preview of the thrilling pirate adventure is available here.

Student offer: Full-time students receive £3 off of face-value ticket prices. Ten off-peak performances (shown in blue here) have lower initial prices and provide the cheapest way of seeing the show.

The Annex – 4/12/13 to 7/12/13
This year’s Showstoppers freshers’ show takes the form of the Jason Robert Brown (The Last Five Years, Parade) growing-up musical 13. When Evan Goldman is forced to move from New York City to the middle of nowhere he has to choose between friendship, being popular and the pressure to have the world’s greatest party. Along the way he meets with some eccentric characters who all want to make his life as difficult as possible. Great songs, humour and an interesting plot suggest this will be a great show. Why not come along and see the new talent Showstoppers has to offer?

Student offer: Tickets available for £6.50 (£5 PA)
